CHICAGO, Ill. (WTVO) — Gov. JB Pritzker said President Trump is deploying National Guard troops to Chicago to protect federal officers and assets amid escalating tensions, which he characterized as "Trump's Invasion" of Illinois.
Pritzker said Sunday that President Trump is ordering 400 members of the Texas National Guard for deployments to Illinois, Oregon, and other locations within the United States.
Pritzker criticized the deployment, stating, "Let’s be clear, it is illegal in fact to call out the National Guard or to send troops into American cities. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits that and yet they tried to do it in Oregon, they’re gonna try to do it here in Chicago."
