A 54-year-old woman who converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught a class for 5-year-olds at church was one of several victims in a church attack Sept. 28.

Thelma Rina Armstrong of Grand Blanc was worshiping at the Grand Blanc Township Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sept 28 when Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, of Burton allegedly rammed his pickup truck into the side of the church, opened fire on congregants and set the building on fire.

Two people were shot dead, eight were wounded and two bodies were discovered in the rubble of the church, with the victims ranging in age from 6 to 78 years old. Sanford was shot dead at the scene, police said.
