A giant Tyrannosaurus rex dinosaur surveys downtown Fairbanks from the roof of the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner. It is there, reminding everyone about the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra’s unique musical event “Jurassic Park in Concert” at the Carlson Center on Nov. 1 and Nov. 2.

Getting that gigantic inflatable dinosaur up on the News-Miner roof was no easy task.

It took a team of about eight people just to carry the more than 80 pound deflated, but unwieldy, dinosaur and inflatable motor to the roof. Then, additional volunteers hauled two wagonloads of 65-pound bags of gravel and placed those bags in buckets to hold the creature firmly in place, once inflated.
