The NFL missed out on an opportunity to have pop icon Taylor Swift headline the Super Bowl Halftime show, according to entertainment journalist Rob Shuter .

The league was in talks with Swift to perform at Super Bowl LX in Feb. 2026 before the deal fell through over requests in her contract, according to Shuter.

Swift wanted “to retain ownership of her performance and secure slots promoting her own projects.” Super Bowl Halftime performers aren’t typically paid, so the NFL refused her request, Shuter reported.

“They expect the biggest artists in the world to do it for ‘exposure,’” a music executive told Shuter. “Taylor Swift doesn’t need exposure. She wanted a deal that reflected her value.”
