South Dakota Department of Education Secretary Joe Graves said the school safety issue has evolved over the last 10 years, and that “all schools are much better prepared now to deal with and to prevent security issues than they were even 10 years ago.”
It’s been a decade since a highly publicized 2015 shooting at Harrisburg High School left former Principal Kevin Lein with a “ flesh wound ,” former assistant principal and current HHS Principal Ryan Rollinger “ visibly shaken” and “roughed up ,” and a former student behind bars .
