CROWN POINT — Saturday's shooting death of a 9-year-old boy in Gary has been ruled a homicide by the Lake County Coroner's Office.
The office released the news late Monday morning and identified the deceased child as Adrian Brown of Gary.
An autopsy was performed early Monday.
Gary police were called out around 6:30 p.m. Saturday to a home in the 400 block of Madison Street for a 911 hang-up call, and then received a separate notification from Methodist Hospital about a child who had been shot, the department said in a statement.
A relative had taken the child to the hospital and the boy died as a result of the gunshot wounds, police said.
The coroner's office reported the shooting took place in the 400 block of Madison Street and that the child was pronounced dead at 7:1
