BETTENDORF, Iowa — What started as a birthday party turned into a life-changing surprise for 4-year-old Mason Cappaert on Saturday, Oct. 4.

For Mason's "golden birthday" celebration, Make-A-Wish Iowa granted him a Walt Disney World vacation to celebrate the end of his cancer treatment.

The announcement brought a moment of pure joy from Mason, who has spent the past two and a half years undergoing treatment for leukemia.

Diagnosed in April 2023, Mason entered remission just last month.

“He took his last dose of chemo Sept. 12," said Jill Cappaert, Mason's mother. "Just getting to throw that away was the coolest thing; he was so happy and right away was like, ‘I beat cancer!’”
