New Delhi: All government offices in the national capital will remain closed on October 7 on the occasion of Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, said an official statement. On this occasion, various programmes, processions, and tribute meetings will be organised across the city, where Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will also take part.
Maharishi Valmiki is remembered as the ‘adikavi’ (first poet) of Indian literature and the author of the Ramayana. He is also seen as a symbol of equality, justice, and humanity. His thoughts and teachings continue to guide people towards respect, dignity, and equal treatment, the statement quoted Gupta as saying.
