MOUNT PLEASANT — All lanes of traffic are now open on U.S. Highway 17 southbound near S. Shelmore Boulevard more than an hour after crews responded to a vehicle fire Oct. 6, officials say.
The fire was first reported via the Mount Pleasant Police Department’s X page around 11:30 a.m. Traffic had slowed to a crawl in the area following several lane closures as emergency crews attempted to extinguish the blaze.
Photos captured by WCIV ABC News 4 showed a plume of black smoke coming from what appeared to be a white utility pickup truck.
The extent of injuries sustained is currently unknown, though officers report that all present in the affected vehicle had exited, according to MPPD spokesperson Lt. Ashley Croy.
