Shillong, Oct 6: Parts of Garo Hills witnessed heavy rain on Sunday, with several parts under an orange weather alert issued by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).

The area around Williamnagar in East Garo Hills was in the 130-204mm band in the 24 hours to 8:30am on Monday, while large chunks of Garo Hills, including Tura and Baghmara, were in the 70-130mm band.

Other areas of Garo Hills, such as Ampati and Tikrikilla were in the 40-70mm band. Only Resubelpara in North Garo Hills failed to get much rainfall.

Precipitation in Khasi-Jaintia Hills was less pronounced.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for tomorrow, expecting scattered showers. Its advice could change when it issues an updated forecast on Tuesday.
