A regular hearing at the Supreme Court on Monday took an ugly turn when senior advocate Rakesh Kishore hurled a shoe at Chief Justice of India BR Gavai. The act did not cause any physical harm to the Chief Justice, as the shoe fell short.
However, it left a dent in the history of the Indian judiciary, even though CJI Gavai tried to dismiss the attack, saying, "These things do not affect me," before continuing with the hearing.
As the advocate was being escorted out, Kishore shouted, "India will not tolerate the insult of Sanatan Dharma."
This incident came weeks after CJI Gavai came under heavy criticism over his controversial "go and ask the deity itself" remarks while hearing a plea linked to the restoration of a damaged Vishnu idol in the Khajuraho complex in Madhya Pradesh.
