MADISON, Wis. -- Madison's independent police monitor has resigned, her office announced Monday.
Robin Copley, who had held the role since 2022, told the city's Police Community Oversight Board that she was stepping down for personal medical reasons. Her last day was Friday, Oct. 3.
Introduced in 2020, the Office of the Independent Monitor came under scrutiny during last year's city budgeting process over a lack of timely reporting and questions regarding oversight. Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway included a $195,000 funding cut to the office in her 2025 operating budget, though some of that funding was restored by the Common Council.
The Police Community Oversight Board will soon accept applicants for an interim monitor as it searches for Copley's replacement. The interim monitor will not
