New Delhi, Oct 6: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports about the death of a five-year-old student allegedly beaten by a teacher at a residential school in Hazaribagh district, Jharkhand, on 24 September 2025.

According to reports, the teacher assaulted the child after he refused to eat food. The boy’s brother, also a student at the same school, is said to have revealed the details of the incident.

Taking serious note of the report, the Commission observed that the incident, if true, raises a grave issue of human rights violation. It has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Jharkhand and the Superintendent of Police, Hazaribagh, seeking a detailed report within two weeks.
