Non-profits that help meet the needs of families faced with food insecurity in west Michigan are increasingly finding it difficult to fund their expenses, especially in the wake of rising prices and higher demand.
One such organization is God’s Kitchen of Michigan, a church-owned soup kitchen in Battle Creek and Kalamazoo. The non-profit was first incorporated in January 2011 and has served more than 158,000 meals to west Michigan since. While the soup kitchen was designed to provide sustenance to indigent people, the elderly and seniors with food insecurity challenges, it does not require its guests to provide paperwork to justify financial need.
