Dwayne Johnson’s “Smashing Machine” failed to smash at the box office.

In fact, the R-rated sports drama checked in at a career-worst debut for the A-list star, pulling in $6 million despite mostly positive reviews from critics and a $50 million budget from A24.

The film sees the man known as “The Rock” in a rare dramatic role as mixed-martial arts and UFC champion, Mark Kerr. Johnson’s performance has been praised, with many predicting Oscar consideration for his work.

The film is directed by Benny Safdie and also stars Emily Blunt as Kerr’s wife. It is certified fresh at 73% on Rotton Tomatoes:
