FRANKENMUTH, MI — A beloved horse did not suffer when she suddenly died while pulling a carriage through Frankenmuth this weekend. Still, her carcass is undergoing an evaluation to determine precisely what ended the mare’s life.
Owned by H&H Acres and Carriage Service, Ruby the horse collapsed while heading east over the covered bridge near the Bavarian Inn about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. Police responded to the scene as the carriage tipped slightly and damaged a westbound vehicle.
The buggy driver was uninjured and the carriage had no passengers.
Ruby died at the scene was and returned to H&H, 713 S. Main St. The nonprofit on Monday posted on its Facebook page that Ruby’s carcass is to undergo a necropsy — the animal equivalent to an autopsy — at Michigan State University.
