California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) is touting a legal victory after he sued President Donald Trump for deploying his state’s National Guard troops to Portland, Oregon.
For the second time in two days, U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut blocked Trump from sending National Guard troops into the city of Portland. In a ruling Sunday night, Immergut granted a temporary restraining order preventing National Guard members across the country from being relocated for federal service in Oregon. It included up to 300 members of the California National Guard who began arriving hours earlier, according to Oregon Gov. Tina Kotek.
The judge, a Trump appointee, argued that the administration was in "direct contravention" of her previous ruling, which prohibited Trump from federalizing the Oregon
