Rochester’s planning commission will consider a public hearing to allow the Assistance League of Southeastern Michigan to host retail sales at a new site.
The Assistance League bought a 12,227 sq. ft. warehouse at 440 South Street for storage, but enough extra space that the nonprofit is renting 3,332 sq. ft to Mann’s Lumber for storage.
The league ran into a problem with the city when they decided to use a part of their space as a retail annex to sell furniture and other large donated items that wouldn’t fit into their downtown Rochester ReSale Connection, 204 S. Main St.
At the time, the city didn’t allow retail in areas zoned for industrial work. But the zoning rules have since been amended to allow for limited retail sales in districts zoned Industrial-1.
