The song of the noisy scrub-bird is being heard in WA's West Cape Howe National Park for the first time in more than a century.
The functionally flightless bird was thought to be extinct but was rediscovered in 1961 at Two Peoples Bay Nature Reserve, about 430 kilometres south-east of Perth.
The species is only found in the area of the state's south coast between Two Peoples Bay, Cheynes Beach, on Bald Island and now West Cape Howe National Park.
Since the rediscovery, there have been long-running efforts to help ensure the survival of the endangered species, the latest seeing three of the birds released to West Cape Howe National Park in early September.
