NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Recent U.S. Census data shows New Mexico is reducing poverty. The state is among the top in the nation when it comes to programs and tax credits aimed at reducing poverty, particularly among children.

According to reports, New Mexico reduced child poverty by more than 3% versus the national average of less than 0.5%. Another more in-depth measure of childhood poverty, known as the Supplemental Poverty measure, once again ranks New Mexican children ahead of the national rate of poverty, signaling to state officials that the policies and programs being put into place are working.
