NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - Police are trying to identify an apparent would-be shoplifter who injured two grocery store employees on Friday night.

Police responded at about 8:10 p.m. Friday to the Ladson Road Food Lion to a report of an employee lying face down on the roadway after a fight.

When officers arrived, they say that the employee was sitting up and had a large bruise on his forehead.

Investigators said a man entered the store wearing a hood pulled up and a ski mask. The man went through the store and eventually went to the checkout, where a clerk rang up the man’s merchandise, which totaled $417.31, an incident report states.

Employees told police that when the man’s card was declined, he pushed the cart out of the store without paying.
