AKRON, Ohio (WJW) - Members of the Greater Akron Fellowship of Clergy and community activists gathered Monday to denounce a Summit County grand jury’s decision not to indict an Akron police officer who fatally shot 15-year-old Jazmir Tucker.
“I’m frustrated that more people aren’t outraged that it’s OK to shoot someone in the back,” said Judi Hill with the NAACP Akron.
The grand jury issued a “no bill,” meaning it found insufficient evidence to pursue criminal charges.
Religious leaders said the decision reflects a lack of accountability.
“I’m not against the police by any means. What I’m against is police brutality,” said Hill.
Tucker was shot and killed after officers responded to reports of gunfire near East Avenue on Thanksgiving night in 2024.
