More Albertans are cutting back on food and utility consumption to rein in expenses than any other province, a report from MNP shows.
According to MNP’s quarterly Consumer Debt Index, one-third of Albertans reported eating less to save money — the highest of any Canadian province — and two-thirds said they grocery shop strategically, using meal plans, coupons, price matching or buying in bulk.
More than half of Albertans (53 per cent) said they have avoided impulse purchases while grocery shopping, up five per cent from last quarter. Alberta was the only province to see an increase this quarter.

And 50 per cent said they have stopped dining out or ordering takeout — also the highest in Canada.
