BURBANK, Calif. -- A favorite Dodgers player is sliding into a new career.

Mookie Betts steps up for a guest spot on the sitcom "Shifting Gears," and knocks it out of the park.

Betts moves from shortstop and clutch hitter to actor, joining Tim Allen and the cast in the Oct. 8 episode.

Co-star Kat Dennings said the set was electric.

"I've never seen the crew like this," she said. "Everyone was flipping out, which is really fun to see."

Betts said this TV team made it easy for him, and he didn't really have to prepare.

"I enjoyed doing it," Betts said. "You look at the lines. You got someone like Tim; he'll take care of you."

We joked that Betts took the job to supplement his MLB income.

"I needed it. I fell on a couple hard times. You gotta do what you gotta do," Betts joked back.
