DENVER (KDVR) — The 16th Street Mall’s grand reopening drew thousands ready to give the venue another chance after problems with crime and prolonged construction.
The one-mile stretch accounts for 20% of Denver’s restaurant tax base.
“It was hard on businesses. We had different access, we had the perception that downtown was closed and now it is fully open, (the) construction fences are down. It really is such a wonderful, exciting experience,” said Britt Diehl of the Downtown Denver Partnership.
Features include new underground infrastructure, remodeled bus lanes, more places to enjoy what the downtown area has to offer and family-friendly areas, including a climbing wall for kids.
“I was impressed that it's really clean and safe,” one tourist told FOX31.
