A brief win for some parents in Coppell ISD after the district delayed a final decision on closing one of its elementary schools, Town Center Elementary.

Parents showed up pleading for another option and a second look, and they got it. Board members questioned whether another school should be closed instead, or if enrollment could be increased to avoid shutting down Town Center.

So many parents attended the Coppell ISD board meeting that an overflow room had to be set up to accommodate the crowd. The concern: a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall the district says requires several cutbacks, including closing a low-enrolled elementary school.

Parents questioned the data, the process and even ran their own numbers, doing everything they could to try to save their children’s school.
