MOORHEAD — Minnesota Class AA’s top-ranked volleyball team has had an answer in all but one match this season. On Monday night, Hawley senior Annaka Johnson was the solution in a three-set sweep over Moorhead in the Spuds gymnasium.

The Nuggets, ranked first by the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches’ Association, came away with a 26-24, 25-21, 25-13 win to improve to 20-1, losing only to Watertown-Mayer on Sept. 19.

Johnson, a 6-foot middle blocker had four aces, six kills and three blocks, but it was her serving that caused problems for the Spuds.

Johnson’s kill to give the Nuggets a 4-3 lead in the first set put the ball in her hands behind the line. After five of her serves, Hawley had a 9-3 lead and Moorhead head coach Amber Fugleberg called a timeout in an effort to regroup her team.
