An $8.3 million plan to demolish and rebuild the Excelsior Club on Beatties Ford Road has been moved to City Council for consideration later this month.

On Monday, the council’s Jobs and Economic Development Committee voted to forward the plan, which is requesting $1.5 million from the city and another $1.5 million from the county. The plan also would require $5.3 million from private developers and foundations.

The request for city funds will be considered along with two other projects seeking taxpayer support: a neighborhood grocery store on Statesville Avenue and a technology/creative lab in Uptown.
