The scale tipped well past a thousand pounds at Krause Berry Farms on Saturday, Oct. 4, as growers from across B.C. rolled in their prize pumpkins for the province’s official Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) Weigh-Off.
This year marked the 12th annual event, and organizer Kirstin Carley said it was their biggest yet.
“We had 21 giant pumpkin entries,” she said proudly. “When we started 12 years ago, there were maybe six of us.”
The event, hosted in partnership with Giant Pumpkins B.C., featured not only massive Atlantic Giant pumpkins but also long gourds, giant tomatoes, marrows, watermelons, and bushel gourds – seven categories in total.
“It’s amazing,” Carley said. “We even had an eight-foot gourd this year.”
