Several National Parks in California are facing facility and area closures as the federal government shutdown continues on Monday, Oct. 6.

That’s according to alerts from the National Park Service, some of which are identifying the sites facing impacts due to the shutdown that began nearly a week ago as President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans and Democrats point fingers over who is at fault.

Prior to the shutdown, the National Parks Conservation Association, a nonprofit that advocates for the protection of national parks, had called on NPS to close parks to ensure their safety and protection amid slimmer staffing — the number of National Park Service employees expected to be furloughed was 9,296, according to an NPS contingency plan .
