Victorians will travel for free on public transport every weekend for two months over summer in what the premier said is the "biggest free transport" event in the state's history.
The state government will offer free-of-charge rides on trams, buses and trains in all of Victoria from early December until February 1 to mark the upcoming opening of the $15.5 billion Melbourne Metro Tunnel.
Each Saturday and Sunday from first service until last, transport gates will remain open and commuters won't need to tap their myki card on or off.
Commuters who accidentally tap on won't be charged for travel during this free period.
In Victoria, full fares are capped at $11 per day on weekdays and $7.60 on weekends.
