A second outside attorney is expected to be hired to look into questions about the award of millions of dollars in taxpayer funding for development of a private downtown hotel.
The Corpus Christi City Council in a 5-3 vote on Oct. 7 approved staff to explore recruiting another attorney from a council-provided list — this lawyer to specifically investigate the situation.
It would be an augment to the council’s decision last month to hire an attorney to represent the city and the mayor’s interests in a competing developer’s lawsuit related to the funding award.
Voting in favor were City Council members Carolyn Vaughn, Gil Hernandez, Sylvia Campos, Kaylynn Paxson and Eric Cantu, with City Councilmen Roland Barrera and Mark Scott voting in opposition.
