The Pittsburgh Steelers have released linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley from the team’s practice squad after signing running back Raheem Blackshear .
Bentley signed with the team in September with a potential promise for playing time, but when Payton Wilson and Cole Holcomb‘s play rebounded, there was no need for them to focus on Bentley. In addition, Malik Harrison could be on the mend soon from his MCL sprain.
Bentley spent seven seasons with the Patriots and is still just 29 years old. An old-school thumper, he would be the exact type of linebacker the Steelers are searching for, but the team likes what they have seen out of that room.
A Purdue alum, Bentley was a fifth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and served as a core special teamer before being elevated to starter as he got old
