SALT LAKE CITY — At least 10 people were displaced after a residential fire in Salt Lake City on Tuesday.

Capt. Chad Jepperson with the Salt Lake City Fire Department said fire crews received a call of a fire in the area 1600 South and 700 West just before 10:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, there were flames and a significant amount of smoke inside the building, Jepperson said.

Approximately 30 firefighters on scene were able to get the fire out in under 20 minutes, Jepperson said. The building had four housing units, and it was not immediately known how many people were inside at the time of the fire.

The fire captain said animal control was responding because there was a large number of dogs in the building.

The Red Cross was also responding to assist the displaced tenants.
