CORDOVA, Ala (WIAT) -- The city of Cordova appointed Harold Cox as interim police chief Tuesday after Jason Hare resigned for unknown reasons, Cordova’s mayor said.

During Tuesday night’s council meeting, Cordova Mayor Jeremy Pate read the resignation letter:

“As of 10/6/2025, I resign as police chief of Cordova. I hope the city of Cordova the best and to keep moving forward.”

Pate formally accepted Hare’s resignation Monday.

“That wasn’t my decision," Pate said. "That was his decision."

Ahead of Tuesday night’s council meeting, a video started circulating on social media. The video is a recording of police department surveillance footage showing an interaction between Hare and a female city employee, Pate confirmed to CBS 42.

It’s unclear is the two events are connected.
