Mayor Bill Bazzi
The U.S. Senate Tuesday confirmed Dearborn Heights Mayor Bill Bazzi as U.S. ambassador to Tunisia in North Africa.
Bazzi was approved by a party-line vote of 51-47 as part of a bloc of 108 nominees ― a group confirmation made possible by a recent rule change by Senate Republicans to expedite the confirmation process for President Donald Trump's nominations, the Detroit News reports.
Bazzi, 62, a native of Lebanon, was one of the local Arab-American politicians to back Presaident Trump in 2024 along with Hamtramck Mayor Amer Ghalib, a native of Yemen. Trump has nominated Ghalib to be the ambassador to Kuwait, but he has yet to be confirmed.
