The upper dams have reduced their discharges substantially, but the discharge level at the Durgapur Barrage has not shown any significant decline today.

Meanwhile, the Trinamul Congress staged a demonstration in front of the Maithon dam to protest against the ‘man-made flood’ situation in the lower Damodar basin, a charge repeatedly levelled by chief minister Mamata Banerjee.

The discharge from the Maithon dam was reduced marginally to 6,500 cusecs, while that from the Panchet dam was recorded at 19,000 cusecs at 5.30 p.m. today. The discharge rate at the Durgapur Barrage, controlled by the state irrigation and waterways department, was recorded at 45,825 cusec at 5 p.m.
