Nvidia will continue to sponsor H-1B visas and cover the associated costs, despite a new executive order from US President Donald Trump imposing a $100,000 fee for new applications. CEO Jensen Huang reassured employees about this decision, emphasizing the importance of immigration for the company and the tech industry as a whole.
In a message to staff, Huang stated, "The miracle of Nvidia — built by all of you, and by brilliant colleagues around the world — would not be possible without immigration." His comments aimed to alleviate concerns among many employees, particularly those from India and China, who make up a significant portion of the H-1B workforce.
Huang highlighted that legal immigration is crucial for maintaining the US's leadership in technology and innovation. He noted, "Legal immigration remains essential to ensuring the US continues to lead in technology and ideas." Nvidia, valued at over $4.5 trillion, is one of the largest sponsors of H-1B visas, having secured around 1,500 approvals in 2025 alone.
The recent executive order does not affect current H-1B holders or those who filed applications before September 21. Critics of the new fee warn that it could deter companies from hiring top global talent and may lead to a shift of tech operations overseas. Huang acknowledged that while the fee is high, it could help reshape US immigration policy, stating, "Probably sets the bar a little too high, but as a first bar, it at least eliminates illegal immigration and that’s a good start."
Huang's commitment to supporting H-1B applicants reflects Nvidia's reliance on a diverse workforce to drive innovation and growth. He concluded his message by reiterating the company's dedication to sponsoring H-1B applicants and covering all related fees, reinforcing the belief that immigration is at the heart of the American dream.
