MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Much-needed rain is moving through New Hampshire to start the day Wednesday, but a dry afternoon is expected with cooling temperatures.

After a damp morning commute with periods of rain and some downpours, expect gradual clearing.

In all, about a half-inch to one inch of rain is expected in many areas. The rain helps, but with the entire state in some state of drought , a lot more rain is needed.

Highs on Wednesday will settle in the 60s after a stretch of 80-degree days.

It will turn colder Wednesday night, with lows settling in the 30s under a clear sky.

Highs will likely only be in the 50s on Thursday despite full sunshine.
