WINCHESTER — Frederick County Public Schools is rolling out weapons detection systems at nine of its campuses this week, according to a letter division superintendent George Hummer sent to families and staff, which was shared with The Winchester Star.

Gainesboro and Stonewall elementary schools and Frederick County Middle School had weapons detectors operating on Wednesday.

Armel, Greenwood Mill, Orchard View and Redbud Run elementary schools will follow on Thursday, and Indian Hollow and Middletown elementary schools will have the systems on Friday.

Hummer's letter states that Chromebooks or laptops, large metal water bottles, large energy drinks in cans, umbrellas and three-ring binders may set off the detectors, and that school staff have a plan to address such situations, should th
