QUEENS, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man arrested in connection with a fatal Queens stabbing and house fire last week had family ties to the victims, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

The fire at a home on Smart Street last Thursday required at least a dozen fire units and 60 FDNY personnel to put out the flames, according to officials. EMS took multiple patients, including NYPD officers, to the hospital with injuries sustained during the incident.

A 27-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged with murder, arson and assault.

The man lived in the Flushing home with his wife, his mother-in-law and brother-in-law, according to Katz. He is accused of stabbing and killing his 50-year-old mother-in-law.
