Thousands of Montgomery trick or treaters received disappointing news Wednesday when Sheriff Derrick Cunningham announced the department would be canceling its annual Halloween Spooktacular Event.

“Unfortunately, we were recently informed that the Garrett Coliseum booked another event for Halloween, and they cannot accommodate our event this year,” reads a post to the department’s Facebook.

“This is the first time in almost 20 years that this event will not be held. We searched this week for an alternate location, but there is just no other venue that can safely accommodate the thousands of people who attend our event each year.”
