With the city’s chief of staff set to retire at the end of the year, Helena is on the prowl for a new city manager “as soon, effectively, as possible.”

The city manager leads Helena’s staff, acting as a liaison between the City Commission’s guidance and city employees' execution.

The city has about 350 employees.

Tim Burton has held the role since 2022, but on Sept. 30 he announced his last day would be Dec. 31, 2025.

“It has been my honor to serve the people of this community,” Burton said in his retirement announcement. “I look forward to spending more time with my family and friends, and a few more weekends up at the cabin.”
