Court documents show the incident happened on Sept. 26 near the intersection of Genevieve Avenue and West Florissant Avenue.

The circuit attorney charged Taurus Welch with knowingly burning or exploding and first-degree property damage. Both are felony charges.

Police said the first person left the scene, but Welch remained and poured more accelerant on the fire.

SLMPD said more than $750 of damage was caused in the fire.
