PORT ANGELES — A Port Angeles man accused of buying a car with a bad check has been arrested and now faces extradition to California on dozens of fraud charges.
Deputies say 59-year-old Christopher Asher used a fraudulent $22,000 check to buy a vehicle from Koenig Subaru in April, then wrote two more checks that bounced. The stolen vehicle was recovered from his home in May, where Asher admitted he hadn’t paid for it.
Last week, detectives learned Asher was wanted in Fresno, California for an alleged scheme targeting car dealerships. Investigators say he posed as a leasing broker, paid with bad checks, and drove vehicles off the lot before payments cleared. He faces 57 counts of theft, fraud, and perjury there.
On October 6th, OPNET and Port Angeles Police arrested Asher at his home. He
