CONNECTICUT, USA — Gov. Ned Lamont said Wednesday that he is authorizing the use of state funding to keep Connecticut's WIC program running during the ongoing federal government shutdown.

Connecticut will cover the $200,000 cost per day to keep the program running during the shutdown, according to David Bednarz, a spokesperson for Lamont's office.

The shutdown began on Oct. 1 with Republicans and Democrats at odds over government funding. As reported by the Associated Press , Republicans initially approved a short-term measure for funding through Nov. 21, but Democrats blocked it, insisting that the deal addresses their health care concerns. The standstill continued into a second week Wednesday with more failed votes on bills to reopen the government.
