CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Alarming statistics on Wednesday night from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
Their data shows that so far this year, 11 juveniles have lost their lives to a homicide. That nearly matches the total from 2024, when there were 12.
Just last week, a 16-year-old was shot and killed in Midtown , and a 17-year-old is charged with murder in that case.
Data from Charlotte police shows nine of the juvenile homicide victims this year were teenagers.
Latoya Woodward’s son was killed in 2019, and she said there needs to be more prevention and intervention to stop violent crime.
“It hurts. It definitely hurts because nobody deserves to leave here at any age, but definitely not have an opportunity to actually live life,” Woodward said.
