CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Mike Stuart, recently confirmed as general counsel for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services , has officially submitted his resignation from the West Virginia Senate.
Stuart, a Republican who represented the 7th District, submitted a letter to the Senate Clerk resigning effective 12:01 a.m. Thursday, according to Senate President Randy Smith.
In his letter, Stuart reflected on his time representing Boone, Lincoln, Logan, and southern Kanawha counties.
“I am proud of my record in the State Senate and even more proud of the great people I represent,” he wrote. “Some legislation passed. Others did not, despite many of those proposals being popularly embraced by the people of West Virginia.”
He urged lawmakers to continue pursuing his priorities,
