LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four years ago, Louisville nonprofit 2X Game Changers founded the Future Healers program with 25 children ages 4 through 13. It stemmed from a goal of helping young people affected by violence find mentors, purpose and live healthy and safe lives.

Organizers said the program has now helped more than 1,300 children. 2X Game Changers is partnering with UofL Health to offer teens affected by gun violence mentorship and internship opportunities.

Ayreona Trowell, 17, has been shadowing UofL Health medical professionals for nearly two years. It’s an opportunity she was connected to through the 2X Game Changers Future Healers Teen Mentor and Internship Medical Program.
