CANTON, Maine — Since switching to a new Medicare plan in January, a couple from Canton said they’ve been unable to find a local doctor who is covered under their insurance—leaving them to pay hundreds out of pocket or cancel necessary appointments altogether.

Bruce and Irene LeClair, both in their 70s, said their situation is becoming increasingly stressful and costly. Having dealt with both a cancer diagnosis and quadruple bypass surgery in the past few years, regular access to care is critical for them.

“Particularly with the histories that we have, we need to stay on top of this,” Bruce said.
